R & R Ahead

in general by Raquel on Thursday, July 31st, 2008 @ 9:37 am

Summer is here for a while now, and this morning, having felt a seashore odor as soon as I stepped out of my building, I remembered the relaxing moments ahead.

After several years of just going there for two or three days on a row, I’ll be spending about a week at my grandparents’ house near Porto in just a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to go to downtown Porto with my grandmother like I used to when I was younger, though this time walking more slowly since she’s older and can’t walk as easily as before. This means more trips there, but that’s fine since one of the things I most liked to do on my vacations as a kid was to go there with my grandma. Lots of Photo-taking will definitely happen. I’m just wondering if I’ll buy another Memory Stick Pro card (which is kind of expensive here in Portugal - I’d prefer importing it from Hong Kong through eBay and pay about half the price), or if I’ll have to take my portable laptop so I can transfer the photos from the camera to it every day so I can free up space and take more photos. I wasn’t really feeling like taking a laptop, since it takes up luggage space, and adds to the weight I’ll have to carry, but I guess that will have to be the way to go about this.

After this, my sweetie will return from Croatia and we’ll slack in the general Lisbon area, maybe going sightseeing, and to the beach and moving some more stuff to the house, I’m guessing. :p

Other than these days, I’m going off on a romantic weekend in a couple of days with my boyfriend, to revisit somewhere I used to go on vacations as a kid. It will probably be very different now, but I’m hoping it retained at least part of its beauty. I’ll take photos (I’m becoming a photo-taking addict) and post some here and my flickr account.

I’ve been feeling really tired and stressed lately, but I’m hoping all of these activities will help me relax and get ready to face more work.

Things to Come

in general by Raquel on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 @ 11:53 pm

After several crap-filled moments I’ve had today, nothing like finishing it linking some of the incoming stuff I’m excited about.

“The World will look up and shout ‘Save us!’. And I’ll whisper ‘No.’.”

I’m slowly reading Alan Moore’s graphic novel, Watchmen, so I’ll stick commenting on the trailer. I liked it. I may read the comic it’s based on faster now that I’ve seen the movie trailer.

Speaking of trailers, there’s a new gameplay trailer for BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins. Lookin’ good. A release date would also be nice to see. I am craving my dose of BioWare RPG goodness so much that I may just have to buy a used copy of Jade Empire for Xbox 360. Yes, I know the game will be available to buy/download on LIVE, however, I still prefer getting the games I pay for the good old fashioned way - on a physical disc, inside a pretty box.

Lastly, it’s not a thing to come, but I liked this Han Solo in Carbonite desk. Almost beats the coolness of the TIE Fighter PC mod/desk. Almost.

Star Wars Fine Art

Worth1000.com made a Photoshop contest where the theme is Star Wars in fine art. Nice stuff submitted there so far, though I still don’t understand people’s interest in General Grievous. *shrugs* The Last Supper was amusing with Chewie being Jesus and all, but I still prefer Battlestar Galactica’s Last Supper, even though the ‘Judas’ hasn’t really been consistent with the show’s events.

Moving, Shopping Weekend

in general by Raquel on Sunday, July 20th, 2008 @ 10:31 pm

I had a busy weekend that involved meeting up with an old friend, moving some more stuff to my house (how much stuff do I have and how on Earth does it all fit in my room?), and lots of shopping.

We bought a couple of really cool-looking vibrant colour water jars for the house. We’ve already put them to use when we had a couple of friends over for dinner (we made Spetzy, yum!). Plus I finally bought some new headphones, only to come to the realization that my faithful Creative Zen micro’s headphone plug entry is in fact screwed and sometimes the sound comes out distorted. Meh. I really don’t want to buy another MP3 player right now. Creative has some new models that can play mp3, and videos, plus read photos, have internal memory but they also read SD cards, which is an attractive concept since SD cards are cheap. However I don’t want to have any more expenses now, so I’ll just endure with the crappy sound thing longer and save money to get one later on, when it really becomes unbearable.

Today after moving some things to my house, we went shopping with my parents, for some clothes for a wedding I’m attending next Saturday. After three hours of walking from store to store, we succeeded in getting a beautiful blue skirt (yes, I will be wearing a skirt. the world is officially going to collapse), a couple of short sleeves white shirts, and some sandals (again, yes. I’ll be wearing sandals. world. collapse. yadda, yadda). Fortunately my mother was in a nice mood and offered me everything. Yey! [ Thanks, mom! :D ]

Now I’m writing on the sofa, with tired feet and sore back, watching TV and thinking of reading a book.

Melting Away

in general by Raquel on Friday, July 18th, 2008 @ 9:33 am

Yesterday I had a really pleasant dinner with friends near work. We hardly see each other though we work in the same general area and even live relatively close, and we joked about how we were meeting and it wasn’t at someone’s birthday party. :P After dinner we went to Fnac and weirdly enough I didn’t feel at all tempted to buy any books there. For myself at least. I browsed books and DVDs for a gift. :P

Anyhow, this followed a small fall on some stairs while I was getting to the mall. All very graceful of course. *ahem* Too bad today my bad knee is hurting more than usual (it hit the floor on the fall). Meh.

So now that I’ve slept, though too little and with an awkward dream (what’s with ‘you shouldn’t hide your true nature’? It’s something out of a bad movie :P ), and that I’ve stopped squeaking inside and screaming ‘YES! YES!’, I can write some more thoughts about the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic MMO RPG.

It’s BioWare. It’s an RPG. It’s Star Wars. The combination of all these factors has the potential to be the basis of an awesome-beyond-words game. Now the only thing I have some doubts about is the MMO part, since BioWare has never delved into that particular type of RPGs. But it’s BioWare, so what can go wrong, really? :P

I might go downtown today after work, to see some stores now that the Sales season is up, but it all depends on how tired I am (I didn’t get enough sleep), and on how much my knee hurts at the end of the day.
