Creative MP4 ZEN X-FI 8GB
The posting slack continues!
But an update. Last Thursday and Friday, Fnac stores here in Portugal gave a 10% discount to everyone with a client card who bought anything at their stores. Other than buying the X-Mas gifts I hadn’t yet gotten, I also bought myself an unexpected self x-mas present - a Creative MP4 ZEN X-FI 8GB, which I’d been flirting with for a long time now.

I’m a Creative MP3 player fan (great sound quality and I never got the obsession with iPods *shrugs*), and this one seemed to be a decent enough upgrade to my old Creative Zen Micro 5 GB MP3 Player, for me to invest in it. This way not only do I have more space for music (3 gigs plus the SD space), but I can also watch TV shows and anime episodes while commuting.
I haven’t tested the movie clip playing capabilities of the new ZEN, but everything else is excellent. The earphones it comes with are very good, the speakers are good (and no, I won’t be using them while commuting *rolls eyes*), the screen seems to have vibrant colors (in the menus at least), the menus are cool, and so forth. What I bought was the Fnac Pack, which didn’t just include the ZEN regular stuff, but also a very nice leather casing and a Creative USB Power Adapter. All for 130€ with the 10% discount already, was a good purchase.
Now all I need to do is convert some Saint Seiya episodes to 320×240 or something, get me some decent podcasts, and I’m set. :)
Speaking of podcasts, any recommendations? I’m especially looking for podcasts centered in video games, movies, and books, but am open to other themes.

The one great thing ipods have is the apps ! Being able to have stuff like dictionaries or google maps and email among many other things in the pocket for easy access is great !
As for podcasts the Giant bomb one is decent as far as video games go. 1up has a video one but I don’t like that format as much .
Well, I get that, but if someone bought a portable music device, I’m guessing they’d like to hear music coming from it. However, Apple in all its wisdom does not include an incorporated radio receiver in their über expensive iPods.
No, if you want the miscellaneous apps, you have them, but a radio? For music? No, that you have to cash in another few dozen euros for it
Don’t get me wrong, I like apple’s design and usability. However I’m not overwhelmed by the shiny stuff so much that I ignore the enormous amount of pimping/milking the cow goes on with those guys’ products. It’s too much for me, for what their products are.
I prefer the less talked about Creative players which actually play music AND radio. Heck, even my 4 year old ZEN had an incorporated radio receiver.
Well I can understand that. For me I value much more my extremely handy Japanese dictionaries and maps than having radio which I don’t listen to anyway (hate the music that goes on the radios, there is only some good shows at very specific hours making them rather hard to listen )
As with everything, there is not one right answer :P
Yep. It’s just that usually Apple never seems to have the right product for me. :P
I must not be cool enough for them. :’(
